Pathways to Recovery: Promoting Wellness and Overcoming Addictions

Addictions, bad habits, and dependent behaviors are uncontrollable strong cravings for something. Many people have addictions to various things: tobacco, drugs, alcohol, a relationship or a person, food, work, social media, games, etc.

One of the principles of Buddhism is that any attachment is a source of suffering. Not only does addiction bring suffering, but it also destroys the personality on a physical and mental level.

Addictions are often formed as a result of trauma, when strong emotions have not been coped with and have moved into the subconscious. If a person forbids himself to express different emotions, his life loses color. He avoids contact with the world, wants to escape from himself and reality with its failures and problems.

Then he finds an object that easily and quickly gives him positive emotions and a feeling of fullness of life. A brief moment is replaced again with anxiety and frustration. An urgent need to satisfy the craving arises again. The habit consolidates. Social isolation and stagnation in other areas of life gradually occur. The person loses contact with himself and the world.

Get rid of addiction
The path to a natural life without addictions can be long and difficult.
Working with a psychologist, a master, a healer, group therapy, support from your loved ones and reading on the subject can help.

The first and most important step is recognition and acceptance of the fact that the problem exists. A person must sincerely want to get rid of addiction.
When one sends a request for help from the bottom of the heart, it is bound to arrive from different sources.

Then he removes the object of the addiction from his life. This is accompanied by unpleasant physical and psychological sensations. In the case of chemical addictions medical assistance may be needed.

During the recovery period there is a purification of the body and psyche.
Meditation, yoga, exercise, self-care through attention to breathing, eating healthy foods, and drinking enough water can help.

It is important to fill the void with new experiences, beneficial for personal development. Psychotherapy, education, establishing contact with the world and people is favorable. With the help of constellations and working with the mind and body, one can correct internal negative beliefs and cleanse oneself from ancestral patterns and childhood traumas.

By getting rid of addiction, a person assembles their integrity and blocked areas of consciousness piece by piece.
He learns to rely on himself in any circumstances. His field and environment change. Whereas in the period of addiction he attracted people with similar patterns, now he parts ways with destructive contacts and creates new connections at another level of consciousness.

Life without addiction is a manifestation of self-love. When we heal, we gain freedom, the ability to experience real, healthy happiness here and now, to enjoy real life. That way we are in control of our own reality.

The following affirmations can help on the path of healing:
"I am free from addiction and feel healthy."
"I am making the right choice, that makes my life better every day."
"I love myself and take care of my body and mind."
"I open my heart to change and move forward, leaving old habits behind."
"I deserve a happy life."
